Yuri Sahakyan, poet and translator, was born in 1937 in Nagorni Karabakh, Martakert district, village Chaylu. His was a member of Union of Writers of USSR from 1968 to 1991. Since then, Yuri Sahakyan is a member of Armenian Union of Writers. He lost his parents in early childhood. Served in Soviet Army from 1957 to 1960. In 1966 Yuri Sahakyan graduated from Yerevan State University, department of philology, and in 1967 started working at "Hayreniki Dzayn" (Voice of Motherland) weekly newspaper as a specialist of literature. Later he studied in Moscow and completed the higher courses of literature affiliated to the USSR Union of Writers. |
From 1974 to 1975 Yuri Sahakyan was the department chief of "Hayreniki Dzayn" weekly newspaper. In 1975 he became the chief editor of the organization of Booklovers. From 1976 till 1993 Yuri Sahakyan worked at "Sovetakan Grokh", later at "Arevik" publishers as a senior editor of literature department for children and teenagers. He translates from Russian, mainly for children. State award winner in 1999 for the book "Alphabet Guide". |
